I concur!
Obviously, there's a deepseated reason for the noun/verb relationship of the word pet (which is why I personally believe only other mammals are fully suitable as companions to humans). Cats have the advantage over dogs in this for two reasons:
-- they are so fastidious about their own grooming (dogs will roll in anything, and don't clean up afterward);
-- they purr.
