that at least some of them are put up to it by the Administration.
1: As psychological warfare against the Iraqis and their supporters, to try to show that there's overwhelming force (there is, there would be no "war" in any conventional sense, just a slaughter), and
2: to pep up the folks at home. The Romans taught us there's nothing like a good ol' slaughter to boost morale among the homies.
