Ellison's take on it was much better and more sophisitcated
His was done as a retrospective, and explored the question of "Is man good"?
Asimov and Ellison were good friends, and the closeness is clearly implied throughout the screenplay.
It was published for several years as a book.
If you can get a copy, it is well worth the read.
I am lucky enough to have an autographed copy.
The ending, even when read, is quite moving.
