One of the most amusing defenses the Left puts up is to pretend there is really no such thing as the Left per se. "Who us? We're right down the middle of the road, you oppressive right winger."

"Raging leftist," i.e. a leftist who uses his soapbox (in my example, the comics they write) to propound furiously on standard left-wing positions. Most of them are fairly simplistic compared to the more complicated positions taken on this board by liberals and leftists, comparable to the kind of thing you often see in high schoolers or college freshmen. The kind of people who advocate 100 percent taxation of the rich.

Most of the more sophisticated writers don't fall into this category, being more thoughtful, but most still hold liberal positions. A number of others probably qualify as libertarian, or even anarchist. There aren't many conservatives as such. None come immediately to mind, although Steve Ditko, co-creator of Spider Man, has evolved (or devolved, depending on your point of view) into a fairly rabid Objectivist type.

I'm talking about comic books here. There are some conservative comic strip writers ("Mallard Fillmore" is conservative, if a bit simple-minded), and certainly conservative political cartoonists.
