Hey Tom, Lindy,
That list is almost hysterically funny.
My favorite is "feel unreal."
What medical condition is that exactly?
Half of those symptoms sound like they are straight out of a hypochondriac's hell and are designed to describe every common symptoms of any person over the age of 25 on the planet. The whole document is designed to induce fear from the ambulance to the graphics style. It's cheap exploitation of hypochondriacs, aging baby boomers and folks with the same maladies caused by other things.
Let's face it - the folks who run these sites whose "life was ruined by aspartame" are waiting for a lawyer who will take a case and make them rich. Considering that none are biting, that tells you how little evidence there is linking aspartame to these folks ills. I assure you as soon as some serious links would appear the attorneys would be all over it like asbestos attorneys in a mining town.
Put an aspirin on a spoon over a flame and part of it will revert to the coal tar from which it is derived. There are millions of chemical reactions occuring in the body and the body is amazingly good at eliminating all these toxins from the body. It knows, based upon frequency relationship, what is good and what is to be discarded or destroyed.
After the body has been exposed to almost anything it can compensate for the worst damage.
A man had died at 79 and had been found to have had tuberculosis so bad his lungs were only 25% unscarred. His liver was completely destroyed and the blood traveled through a newly formed passage. Yet this man was active and apparently healthy, never complaining a bit or suffering symptoms at all up to his death.
The bottom line on aspartame like everything else - is moderation. No one is going around injecting themselves like lab rats on extreme doses of aspartame. No one is using a box of equal packets in a day.
"Healthy food" is nonexistent. All foods overindulged in will make you fat, tired, achy muscles, depressed, lack concentration, feel unreal, etc. Milk will make many folks sick and lots of people have allergic reactions to everything from honey to strawberries.
Lindy, I know you mean well and I do appreciate the thought - but I am fine and healthy. I feel great. Great blood pressure, no maladies, mind still sharp as a tack. If sugar-free drinks are killing me - they have had a chance to do so for twenty years now, and are not very successful. I drank Tab and Fresca when they were first out in the mid-seventies. By the early 80's I completely phased out all sugar-soft drinks and by the late eighties a regular coke would give me a sugar-stomach ache. I figure diet drinks have spared me a lot of needless calories that could have added weight, promoted tooth decay, etc.
Eight pure glasses of water a day are a great help to health as well and I haven't drinked tap water since 1979.
Psychosomatic ailments and even other ailments can often be alleviated by suggestion. A website saying, "go for 60 days without aspartame" will have the same placebo effect as a sugar pill for those who believe they will get better.
If someone believes reading this post will add ten years to their life - you'd be shocked to know that it very well could.
If someone really believes that aspartame is making them sick - they could very well pass out on the spot after a sip of a drink!
Mind over matter.
If you don't mind - it doesn't matter.
;-)
