The 70s had some of the worst music ever
I graduated high school in 1975, so that was my era. There was some good stuff out there, like Pink Floyd and some others. However, there was some incredible drek that makes me cringe just to think about it. Here are but a few examples:
"The Night Chicado Died" (pablum)
"At 17" (music to slit your wrists by)
"Kung Fu Fighting" - blidge
99.99% of disco (an underestimate)
and perhaps the most putrid song of all
"Seasons in the Sun"
NOTE: Seasons in the Sun was sang by Terry Jacks. I hope to God he isn't a relative.
Admittedly, every decade has its share of lousy music. The 1950s saw an incredible amount of crap music, too. It just seems in retrospect that there was so much of it concentated in the 1970s.
