Jurassic Park & Michael Chrichton
I've commented on this attitude on this bbs in the past. Jurassic Park author Michael Chrichton while writing decent popular fiction with cutting edge technology as a centerpiece is actually a bit of a Luddite. He has a nineteen fifties Hollywood sci-fi movie attitude that scientific progress always seems to result in some major disaster.
In book after book the characters are always doing something involving money and technology that gets out of control. See "Prey" his latest novel on nanotech as a prime example.
Slams aside, I'd kill to see his "Timeline" novel made into a movie.
