There's an old myth that the right-wing folks are called that because they sat on the right side of some legislative chamber. People have believed it for so long that, indeed, in the last several hundred years the more conservative people have been seated on the right side of those chambers, depending upon which way one is looking.

As a natural consequence the truly correct thinkers have been seated on the left.

The reality is that it is called "right"-wing the same way fat people are called "Slim" and large people are called "Tiny". Bald people are called "Curly", and, well, you get the point.

It's an attempt at irony, facetiousness if you will.

And true.
