By only killing a few journalists and saying something like "A warzone is not safe for anyone", they've got plausible deniability. Old strategy. Testing their freedom while deceiving the public. I just can't figure out what the goal of such a strategy is in this case !!!
The problem with "plausible deniability" in this case is that they hit three different media enclaves on the same day, even surrounding one of them with tanks. So it's obviously intentional. Their story about hostiles firing at them would be easier to believe if they went in and physically arrested the people they're after that are holed up inside. But witnesses, a BBC correspondant in the case of the Palestine Hotel, said there was no gunfire from the hotel before the strike -- it was unprovoked! A similar incident occurred in Afghanistan when the Al Jazeera outlet was bombed, and the people inside were given only a 10 minute warning before it happened. Was this accidental? Were coalition troops taking fire from the building? I doubt it.
I think this is all about making sure every party involved has their hands dirty, takes casualties, and has reason to keep their mouths shut about certain things, and at the right times. It's about domination and stratification of the entire population, journalists, and civilians incuded.
