Moral evasion

Any person who kept that money is a crook.

I don't get to keep a guy's wallet just because he had a hole in his pocket.

I don't keep the fifty dollar bill given me at the cash register just because the guy thinks he gave me a five.

Someone else's mistake is not a license for me to pounce on them. And they call capitalists predatory.

The bank, jewelry store owner, and drunken customer may not have the legal right to demand that things be put right, but I would resign the agreement, return the jewelry, and give the poor guy back his money. Any sorry bastard can be honest when the law is forcing him to be.

And you think people have to be convinced to do the right thing by putting a "human face" on the issue? Considering the perceptual mentality of many people, you are probably right. But it shouldn't be that way. This, incidentally, is why it's okay for a lot of people to advocate taking from the "rich," since it's easy to justify robbing a cipher. The guy who shoplifts from a "corporation" is using the same mental evasion.

Geez, Mary Anne. I wouldn't have figured you for someone who thought like this.
