Subtley?

"Subtlety," my shiny metal ass. Were these people stealing or not? And is stealing right or wrong?

There are indeed complications when discussing some moral issues, but more and more I am finding that for a lot of people the purpose of injecting complexity, "colors" and "shades of gray" into it is to disguise the fact that the injector would really like to avoid any moral judgments applied to their own actions or lifestyles. I don't think this applies to you, Mary Anne. So why?

I can understand the motivations of some people who would like the idea of stealing to be fogged up to the point where their own larcenous actions are overlooked, or even mislabeled as virtuous, but this isn't you either.

With some liberals "who am I to judge?" is a matter of trained reflex.

Remember this poor kid?

But I figure you as smarter than that.

Ah, well. I guess I'll leave it alone now.
