I never said these people are representative of Christians in general, or even that they make up a substantial fraction of American Christians.
But I am very familiar with them. I am from the part of the country where they tend to predominate, and they have been a part of the scenery here for as long as I can remember, even before the "Late Great Planet Earth" phenomenon.
I know that there are a lot of them, they cluster on the Right, and they are powerful and influential. No Conservative with political ambitions dares to cross them openly, or even ignore them.
I'm afraid of them. They make my flesh crawl.
