Re: They make your flesh crawl because that's part of your belief system.

Yeah, I'm perfectly aware that a bunch of crazy ragheads want to fly airliners into our office buildings, but they don't live here, and they are not the spiritual heart of the Tea Party.

And yeah, you have frequently pointed out that as long as Stalin has his Gulag no obscenity the right wing can conjure up or is cozying up to is allowed to be criticized. I see Republicans are no more shy about courting religious cults than they are at wooing Fascist Latin American dictators. As long as they ain't Reds or Islamic, anything is justified, and anything can be forgiven. I'm really getting fed up with you pointing out monotonously what the Commies did as a get out of jail free card for whatever the fanatics on your side are wet-dreaming about.

So what's next, Hitler didn't kill as many as Stalin, and he hated Communists, so he was a saint? The Klan, Skinheads and Vigilante Militias never went on record for socialized medicine so they "aren't as bad" as President Obama? Or France?

Get over it. Stalin and Mao are dead, we won the Cold War, and the Russians and Chinese are working on their own versions of Gilded Age, pre-Roosevelt Capitalism, the kind the Republican Party is so feverishly trying to re-establish here. Find yourself a new bogeyman, like those Socialist hell-holes in Western Europe you seem to be convinced are the latest threat to World Civilization.

Whatever problems my belief system is hobbled with, it doesn't include permission from god to do anything I please in his name, or his stamp of approval on my political superstitions. And I don't get to give a pass to any of my allies as long as they aren't quite as bad as my latest ideological villain du jour.

What really makes my fresh crawl is not these religious fanatics, we live in a world full of fundamentalist barbarians, religious and political, and I'll grant many of them are a lot more dangerous than our regional rural religious rednecks. No, what really gives me the creeps is how they have been embraced and encouraged, even meticulously groomed, by reactionary opportunists here in this country, enlisted to help them further their own self-serving economic agenda. The Jesus sycophants can at least be forgiven for their barbarism, they are too stupid to realize how truly evil they really are.
