Stalin was not a Christian born-again "Rapture" fundamentalist. Neither was Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, or most of the others. All of these were ideologists who believed that the Cult of the Leader was the ultimate religion, and that the State was the only God people needed. Hell, most Islamic dictatorships aren't any different except that their Great Leaders wrap themselves in the Koran for justification instead of Das Volk or the Proletariat.
When you cut through the rhetorical crap, the "theory," the "manifestos," the speeches, the "dialectics," and all the rest of it, they're all the same damn vultures with the same damn tactics regardless of how they paint their feathers.
The death camps exist. You can go look at them. So do the Killing Fields and Gulags. There were real victims, and real atrocities. Over a hundred million murdered, outside of acts of war.
The Great Christian Fundamental Theocracy still exists only in the fevered liberal imagination. Your "not quite as bad" is measured in light-years.
In my belief system, real historical experience weighs more heavily than theoreticals.
