Actually, the best lawn maintenace device

is a teenaged boy. While my sons were home, they did the yardwork. Like my father, I believed that if I had to feed them, I might as well get some work out of them. After they grew up and left home, I got a self-propelled lawn more. It's more work than telling someone else to mow the lawn but it's a lot cheaper to feed a mower than a teenaged boy.

BTW: my next door neighbors have two young sons. They're already training the older one (turns 3 next month) by having him push a little plastic lawn mower around the yard. He likes it. They got him a little pushbroom last weekend so now he gets to help sweep the sidewalk. I've suggested they get one of those little plastic snow shovels, too. Got to train him to shovel the driveway! They're looking for one but have not found one yet.
