I'm assuming you have that dream or fantasy of seeing that martian basin filled with water.
That's admirable.
But....
What EP Grondine is suggesting I gather is, that a lack of a martian magnetic-field means a thick martian atmosphere would eventually be stripped away...and has.
And you can't retain a liquid ocean on Mars without
a dense atmosphere.
