I think what will drive the need for larger machines - even for Joe Average - is that programming languages and app programmers are completely unconcerned how big and slow their apps are. Everyone in the industry, from Microsoft on down, is counting on ever larger machines.

If you compare softs published recently to those published two years ago, the difference in install size and required system stats is huge. Of course increasingly complex multimedia drives some of those changes.

I predict that an app that you buy 10 years from now will not run on a 10GH machine. We will all need them.
