Has anyone verified this is not a forgery?

I do not wish to imply that anyone on this board would present a modified Mars picture and claim it was real. However it's possible that different people are innocently refering to the same forgery. This picture is so weird that I find it very hard to believe. Does anyone have a URL to this picture from an official NASA website? I hope it is real because it is certainly interesting. I'm looking forward to an expert explaining it.
