Canada has about 2 years of oil reserves left. Granted we export more oil to the USA than Saudi Arabia, but we still use some of it ourselves. Here's the scoop:
Canada's transportation industry consumes:
0.75 million barrels per day of gasoline
0.35 million barrels per day of diesel
0.10 million barrels per day of jet fuel
-----------------------------------
1.20 million barrels per day total oil consumption for transportation
There are lots of potential alternatives for stationary power for the electrical grid, eg. nuclear, hydroelectric, etc. But there are few options for transportation, so I choose to focus on transportation. Since 1 barrel of oil is contains approximately 6.12 billion Joules of energy, that means we need an environmentally friendly solution that can provide 85 billion watts of power in a concentrated, transportable, liquid-fuel form.
How the hell do we do that!?!?
