Hi Guys
Seems his main data for his hypothesis is from isotopic anomalies in our system, so he is not saying every G star has a core of iron. However I think all the solar neutrino observers, helioseismologists and solar modellers would have more than a few objections to an iron core - their data and theories all link up to within 1% tolerances. We understand the guts of Sun better than we did when this guy first theorised his "solution" to the isotope problem.
His solution might be nuts but it as an attempt at least. The isotope anomalies don't go away because we ignore them.
Michael Woolfson has an alternative theory in which two Jovians collided soon after the Jovians formed out of matter captured from a passing protostar in the Sun's birth-nebula. The collision provided enough energy for long enough to cause a huge range of nuclear reactions which could potentially explain the same anomalies. Instead of a supernova Sun we have colliding planets - a bit more plausible I'd say.

Main data point is isotopes...
