<A few hundred/thousand years later (if we are around) who knows?
We have only been a country for a couple hundred years and we are so in part because our fore fathers wanted the freedom of religious choice. Religion is not a "bad" thing - granted it has contributed to many wrongs but equally or more so it has contributed to all that is right - especially in this country. "In god we trust" and "One Nation Under God" are quotations that may be forever tied to the United States of America - at least I hope so.
Just because this nation was formed post-dark ages is no reason to go off the deep-end, V.
Religion = more good than bad? Don’t let the other continents here that one.
A few thousand years from now, and provided religion is only half as established as it is today, we’ll be no further from war and crime than we are today. More death has occurred for the sake of some almighty god than any number of political aspirations combined, as demonstrated in Delbert’s initial post -- and I am including the childish greed that we find demonstrated in Central and South Americas on a daily basis.
Political and religious tolerance doesn’t make the U.S. of A. any better than we were before this great nation of ours was established, but it does open a window for change. If we’re patient enough, and if we can teach this same tolerance to our children, we just might win the opportunity to squeak by.
