Surprise! Mars tops the list of public interest by far. In a near tie the Moon and Europa were a distant second and third though the far outpaced the rest. Of course, Bush responded (ignoring a probable phase lag) by cancelling the EO mission.
Will the Moon folks finally admit the obvious direction of public interest?
The top directional three priorities were:
Scientific Exploration—learn everything we can about the planets rating=4.0 (23% ranked 1st)
Search for any potential danger to Earth from space rating=4.2 (25% ranked 1st)
Determine the suitability of other planets for human colonization rating=4.2 (25% ranked 1st)
So we see a majority of space fans rank colonization of space and searching for danger about equally and that more considered these the top priority than any other category. The catch all learn everything won based on highest average rating not most first place votes.
