Re: Mass is important for spacecraft

Mass is important for spacecraft. Here are some values for the energy storage density per unit mass of typical electric batteries.

1. Lead-acid battery = 0.792 MJ/kg
2. Nickel-cadmium battery = 0.1584 MJ/kg
3. Silver-Zinc battery = 0.396 MJ/kg
4. Sodium-sulfur battery = 0.792 MJ/kg
5. Lithium-Sulfur battery = 0.792 MJ/kg
6. Iron-titanium hydride battery = 2.124 MJ/kg
7. Magnesium hydride with Ni catalyst battery = 8.280 MJ/kg

Any idea what it would be for a flywheel ?
