Come on Larry,
The tax cut bill covered 10 years and the rich get the largest share at the admission of Republican leaders. The tax cut was in Bush's campaign before a stimulous was ever needed and was always intended to include a fat capital gains tax cut for the rich. It makes no difference whether it is in effect today or not in determining who the Republicans are favoring or what their priorities are.
Off course the economy was slowing. It was at unsustainable levels and the Fed was trying to slow it. It was however still growing, and the need for Fed intervention indicates a booming economy to me, not a continual increase in growth rate.
I'm certainly not blaming Bush for the recession and think that any Dems that due are full of it. I do blame him for returning us to deficits. Any prudent planner would have expected a record expansion to end some time soon under Fed pressure. I saw it coming a mile away and don't claim to be any economic genius.
Regards,
Mark
