The comet named Ikeya-Zhang is incorrectly and unfairly named.

First, Mr. Ikeya and Mr. Zhang are not
the first to see this comet. It was spotted and identified in 1661.
So the lucky astronomer(s), either in the years 1661, or 441 years earlier still, who FIRST spotted the comet and recorded its presence for history, should have the right to have their name(s)
afixed to that comet! It's only right!

I could guess the reply you're going to give, Raoul.
You will probably say that Mr. Ikeya, and Mr. Zhang, live in a time and age when the IAU has the 'authority' to issue such labels, and to give such
monikerous[is there such a word?] credit.
With all due respect to you, Raoul,
NO - IT - DOES - NOT - HAVE - THE - AUTHORITY - TO - DO - SO!
The IAU is a "non-governmental" organization that has given itself
the arbitrary ability to name such celestial-objects...Which means it ultimately can be challenged in a court of law, if it should come to that.

If historians, archivists and genealogists were to locate a family,
whose distant family relative were to have been the "first" to officially spot and record the presence of the comet in 1661, or 441 or 882 years earlier, that family would have the right to seek a court-action on behave of their distant family relative, seeking to legally impose credit where credit is due.
I believe there is presidence!
THERE! I've let off a little steam!
