Comets were recognized by bone fide astronomers, like Tycho Brahe, as early as the 16th century.
There were scientists and astronomers in 1661 who recognized comets as celestial objects.
The IAU is WRONG WRONG WRONG!
If it were up to me, I would take the IAU organization to court and force them to change the names.
