I think that you missed the 1st part which is the possibility of nano assemblers in the 1st place.

I know that the tone of the thread is fun free flowing speculation but what we and the popular press tout as "nanotech" {It's here! It's here REAL SOON now!} is a far, far cry from the magic technology of Drexelerian assemblers. Virtually anything which does not defy the laws of physics or computation is then attributed to being able to be done by these tiny devices. Amazing how these tiny nanoscale machines can be "programmed" to do AI robotic functions that entire AI labs cannot do, despite 30 years of AI research. This aspect of nanotech forecasting most resembles cargo cult science to me.
