Thomas Freidman, among others, has been downright wistful about how easy it is for China to do all the great things that should be done, without that messy democracy getting in the way.
An interesting piece of information I found: Foxconn is owned by a multinational corporation headquartered in Taiwan. It was founded by Terry Gou in 1974 with $7,500. Gou's family fled Communist China in 1949, so there is some kind of karmic backwash going on here, but I'm not sure exactly where it goes.
Foxconn has factories not only in China, but in eastern Europe, Mexico, India, and Brazil.
In short, this isn't a business owned by the Chinese government. It just uses Chinese labor. I don't know what kind of deals they made.

What, are you a "progressive?" Ain't nobody in here but rabid right wingers and reasonable moderates.
