The primary issue was your lunar observatory obsession and your claims about our ability to detect long period comments. No astonomer or mainstream NEO researcher has supported your claim that a lunar observatory is the superior NEO detection option despite your claims about CAPS. Orbital observatories would have similar capabilities, not have some major lunar liabilities, and be far cheaper. No one spoke up in your defense over Steel's criticism of your muddying the waters on NEO policy.
Commentary on another country's policy is entirely a personal matter to which no one has the right answer for another person. I don't think there is anything wrong with us criticizing Australia or Steel criticizing US policy, but I would not criticize someone else for feeling diffferently. The principle of free speech also allows you to remain silent if you so choose. The fact that many researchers chose to criticize Australia does not mean they begrudge Steel's right not to criticize the US.
