<Starship Generations is the closest I'll ever get to the space program (and maybe success). Just recently I realized that if we could grow food using just 25 Watts per square meter average visible sunlight per day then the Habitat Sphere would be in thermal equilibrium. It wouldn't require any active cooling in interstellar space. Although it would require a sunshade when inside the solar system to simulate the near-absolute zero temperature outside the ship.
