That's what I figured.

You're not telling Jody she's going to pay less for her insurance. You're telling her someone else is going to be forced to pay for her insurance. Screw them, right?

Whoever has the greatest need gets to take it away from those who have it. Heard that before, haven't we?

Pretty much the Democratic scenario on everything when you think about it. Buying political power with other people's money.

But then power is what the whole "single-payer" deal is about. It's why Democrats oppose any workable alternatives that involve individual choice and multiple private competitive solutions.

Premiums are enormous because they're forced to be. Regulations command insurance companies to provide comprehensive coverage of almost everything. People used to buy "hospital insurance" on the market. Catastrophic coverage. Normal bills just got paid.

When one of us here has a regular job, we go with the employer insurance. When neither of us did (rare) I bought policies from Blue Shield. This was back when my kids were small. Coverage combined cost around $300 a month, less for the kids than for us.

I just ran a quote for me and my wife and two adult children from Blue Shield. Between $800 and $1100 a month, depending on deductibles and things. If I run it back to when I was younger and my children were small, it's about half that.

I linked to this survey article back when the whole Obamacare thing was on the boil. Might not hurt to read it again.

Note the pattern of most people being happy with what they're getting, but believing that most people aren't. That's because they're being lied to.
