And why exactly is it you assume this study is correct and the majority of past ones are wrong? This is an example of science in progress not an overthrow of previous consensus. As Tom says the previous theories do sound reasonable and are backed by a lot of data. I'm sure you can use your in depth climate expertise to explain why warm water flowing past Europe won't warm it up, but I can't. All I know is that the warm gulf makes Mobile a whole lot warmer than Auburn a few hours north in the winter and a few degrees cooler in the summer when the temperature differential is reversed.
