Just make sure the stuff isn't flammable

One of the lessons of the Apollo 1 fire was that putting a lot of flammable materials in a spacecraft isn't a good idea. The Apollo 1 astronauts loved Velcro because it would keep stuff from floating around. Unfortunately, it burns very well, especially in an oxygen rich atmosphere. Ever since then, NASA has enforced strict guidelines about using flammable materials in spacecraft. To use your idea in the ISS (and it's a good idea), the things would have to be made of fire resistant materials, tested, certified, and documented, and would end up costing several thousand dollars each. Such is the nature of government procurement.
