I am appalled.
People will draw the conclusions they conclude, and witholding information because they might draw the "wrong conclusion" is about as unscientific as I can imagine.
It should not be that hard for the planetary science community to explain themselves rationally. In fact, it isn't that hard -- as Nick Hoffman's case has abundantly shown.
