We can theorize how things might behave in Mars environment, but it is an alien environment. We might just be surprised.
Let me think of other examples where scientist were surprised. Venus being a humid tropical planet. Jupiter’s moons being cold dead worlds. Pluto being a planet as large as Earth. Ceres being a planet. Mercury being tidally locked to the Sun.
Mars has evolved a lot in our minds. We went from Mars having a thicker atmosphere with water and even Martians to a Mars that was a dead moon-like world. Now we are seeing Mars as its own planet with its own unique properties.
And what was the key to our enlightenments? More data.
I doubt CO2 can be liquid on Mars. I have never studied liquid CO2. But we may e surprised and discover some mixture of CO2 and other elements that stay liquid for a short time on Mars. I feel confident that most channels on Mars were caused by a liquid composed primary of water, but I try to keep an open mind. I’ve been surprised before.
