We should've paid more attention to the Twilight Zone episodes, EC comics and others who warned us about the Venusians.

Say a bug spits acid on our probe - we read high sulphuric acid content.

Another bug spits flame on the Russians probe and they record heat that melts metal like butter in a microwave.

Brrrr.

Where the heck is that escape pod?!
