I had a lot of high hopes for Elon Musk and his billions, but from the latest revisions on the SpaceX website, they are rehashing old concepts like the stuff I worked on years ago, and similar to the solutions tried and scrapped by many others.
Why they think they can do anything major with a 1,000 lb. payload for $10 million ($10,000 a pound) is more than I can see. The OSC Taurus can launch three times that for about $15 million. The launch market is saturated, and even the larger follow-on vehicle planned would be entering a market already scratching for customers.
When I first heard that Musk had his eye on a big space venture, I was hoping for something outside the box: a spaceplane, or some other reusable system at the very least. A manned program would have been nice.
I haven't been this disappointed since the Beal fiasco.
Oh, well. They are hiring, if anyone out there is interested. And maybe you should be. From my own experience, working for a rocket company that hasn't got one chance in hell of succeeding still beats 90 percent of any other jobs you can name. Or maybe that's just me.
