Are any companies out there pursuing Skyhooks? My correspondance with Toyobo corporation in Japan indicates that rope/cable with 1.77 GPa breaking strength has been achieved. Granted that is only 30% of the strength of individual fibers, but a different yarn weave might make a Skyhook a reality...
