Me static? Surely you jest.

Carbon is ubiquitous, we certainly are not going to run out of any in the near future. I'm sitting on a continent of it. As usual, you dangle a carrot in front of a horseless cart. Why use carbon to filter water when you can distill it with solar thermal energy, electrocatalyze it with optical photons, sterilize it with uv photons, and simultaneously solve our energy conversion and environmental problems?

The energy conversion, environmental, space transportation and habitation problems are intimately related. They propose that it requires an "Apollo" style project to come up with solutions, but it's worse than that, it will require a "MANHATTEN" style project to develop the wind and solar optical, hydrogen and oxygen electrocatalytic technology, CELSSs, SSTO and RLVs, necessary to even begin to solve these problems.

Nuclear energy is not part of the solution either, rather, it is also part of the problem. Can you spell 'proliferation'? How about 'extinction'? I suggest you try spelling 'imagination'.

Science has spoken, the future is yours.
