I've heard the debate about meteorites and or comets bringing life/water to the Earth but I don't think it is likely, and the Earth didn't need them to.
Anyone who has taken basic Geology knows, the #1 gas emitted by volcanoes (on Earth of course) is water vapor.
I believe the Earth supplied itself with its oceans and atmosphere.
Anyway, that's my two cents.
