Re: South Park Science from dudes in canvas suits

Mark is calling out his troops again...

For the record, I don't worship anyone, but I admire scientists that are not affraid to stand up for their data. I do think Dr. Wickramasignhe is onto something with his theories on panspermia. If life can be transferred to one planet to another via meteorites, then why not by comets as well? We know very little about the extent of life in the universe. You should not criticize those trying to find the answers to these difficult questions, but then again that is all some people are capable of.

South Park science? Can also be interpreted as thinking the Arctic is a realistic analog to Mars and setting up a plywood "Mars Research Station". It's not Mars...not even close, so it is rediculous to pretend it is. I cannot believe the Discovery Channel covered this as "real science".
Is this your view of real science Eric? If not, let's hear what planetary research you think is real or worthwhile?

As Apollo astronaut Dave Scott said recently - man will set foot on Mars ...but in one or two centuries. Much more work needs to be done on humans surviving a trip for two years and the life issue needs to be settled to see if it is even safe to send humans to Mars. In that regard, we have barely scratched the surface of what needs to be done.

Let's hope Beagle 2 is successful in its renewed search for biosignatures on Mars.
