Re: Those are legitimate?

I find your worldview interesting, in that it's okay to "pollute" the Moon with human activity as long as, God forbid, someone doesn't actually make any money doing it.

The surface area of the Moon is about 14 million square miles, compared to the approximately 3.6 million square miles that comprise the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii.) If you think we are "ruining" this expanse of airless, radiation-blasted rock by dropping a small metal cannister on it, then we are operating on totally different mental wavelengths, and I'm not sure we can discuss it much further.

I heartily support almost ANY mechanism for making spaceflight profitable, because there isn't anything else that's going to open space up in a big way.

An exercise for the student: go back and look up the various voyages of exploration, colonization, and general expansion of civilization around the world. An awful lot of them were for commercial reasons. The desire to make a buck has pushed mankind a lot farther forward than just about anything else.

Of course, if you're one of those people who believe that civilization, technology, and prosperity are a stinking blot on the face of the "natural" universe, well, never mind.
