Re: AGU: Record ice loss in arctic

I constantly see references to "highest/worst/largest/most" of something or other "in recorded history." I rarely see any references to what exactly "recorded history" is. Readings in the linked article seem to go back to 1992, with "calculations" being used to figure out the loss since 1978. The linked article on Greenland talks about GPS measurements beginning in 1996. I can't find anything on this particular study that goes back any further than about 25 years.

I can't analyze this any further than that without coughing up money for original scientific papers. But some more details on how long "recorded history" is would be very useful.
