Sorry, but NASA's Mars Landers ALSO cost multiples more than the UK's Beagle 2. I just didn't use that example because we still don't really know what they'll cost. Recently NASA said it'll need more dough for that endeavor, after all.

Incidentally, Professor Pilinger says Beagle 2 does more than NASA's landing mission can. I guess the proof will be in the pudding, but here are the sources:
