Space/Science » in reply to NASA's Mars landers ALSO cost multiples more than Beagle 2

2 Rovers vs One Stationary Lander

No I don't think Beagle is going to do more. It will certainly do more looking for life in one small spot, but the Rovers will conduct a lot of research over a far wider area. Which will conduct more science? It's hard to say. How many geochemical studies are worth one life experiment? Again it's kind of comparing apples and oranges. The Beagle takes a strike for the jackpot gamble which may well fail if it selects a poor site. The rovers are designed in part to help find targets for future NASA landers.
