Veenenbos did a fantastic job with that MOLA data.
Hard to say which is my favorite. It's more like I appreciated common qualities of all his work. I noticed that in many images he took the time to model the atmosphere, and it has a big positive effect on limb images in particular. A lot of his scenes are set up with an oblique camera angle looking into the Sun, and they all benefit from atmosphere modelling. Adds a powerful touch of realism.
On the down side, I think his light levels are way too high (though that's understandable to get maximum clarity). I tried modelling the Martian landscape in Bryce long ago, and when I set the illumination level to the ~50% it ought to be, the result was dim and murky, like twilight.
Despite that minor quibble, I was very impressed. I only had time to sample a few dozen renderings out of what seemed like hundreds (!), so I plan to return later at my leisure. Thanks for the link!
