Re: scenes from the past

In the very early ages of Earth, it was raining meteorites at a rate very difficult to imagine today.
Let's take the most impressive Leonid showers in 1866 and multiply by 100 million and this for hundreds of millions of years.
Some even suggest that's how water and life came to Earth. I wouldn't go as far, but the constant shower is plausible. Even during night, the sky was continuously illuminated by the incandescent meteorite trails.

It's true the impact is the leading theory for the Moon's formation. But Schmitt and an increasing number of scientists are turning their attention back to capture. The Moon as we know it, could not have been made by the re-assembly of millions of rocks.
On the other hand, the discovery that bodies can be captured (like Shoemaker-Levi 9 by Jupiter) shows how interesting the Lagrange points (1 and 2) become, serving as portals between worlds.
