Who says you need fuel cells to run off of hydrogen.
It looks like BMW has a pretty good answer for the, "How do you build a hydrogen powered car without hydrogen fueling stations, and how do you build hydrogen fueling stations without hydrogen powered cars," question. This interim solution is the way to go until the necessary hydrogen fueling infrastructure can be brought online.
