You need to develop a seismograph for inclusion on a future mission.

In fact, why not develop an entire mission around the idea:

Land the rover/seismograph or two at interesting geologic locations. Then crash 10 or 12 burrowing bunker busting bombs into strategic locations nearby to give a detailed look at what is below the surface.

In fact you could use nuclear bunker busters to give the pentagon a reason to develop and test them!

We could analyze spectrographic images of the dust clouds that would be created to try to get a beeter understanding of the chemistry of what is below the surface of the planet.

There is more than enough for an entire mission there...Think of the scientific and military returns on investment!

You can name the mission Dr. Evil after my dear old dad... I'm sure he wouldn't mind... or how about "Bigglesworth" after his pet meowser... Cats understand and love Geology. Thats why they are drawn to litter boxes. (they are very fond of clay).

P.S. Let me know if you need more ideas to throw at NASA in your proposal. I don't think they would take me because of that "C" I got in Geology 101.
