The point was that people have warned about the potential for tile failure all through the shutle program.
The fact that CNN dug up an "expert" that warned of this in 1990 is a joke. I remember reading the same thin in weekly reader when I was in grade schoold before the damn thing even flew a test flight.
Get a clue.
